I hope everyone is having a nice holiday! I have released a special podcast episode for the holidays. I explain what is new on the site, what will be new in the next few weeks, and what will be new in 2010. I have also released a special tutorial from the next tutorial series: Space Shooter. This tutorial will be the very first tutorial from the series, and will cover how to create a nice sprite for the space shooter game like you see below:

Resources - zip file includes the PSD, the scanned picture, and both results.
Watch the podcast episode - 5:25
Watch the tutorial - 46:09
Youtube Playlist - 5 videos
Now that finals are over, I can get back to work here! There have been a few people that have wanted to control the menu system with the mouse, so I have made a quick sample on this here. This is not the code, just the executable. I will release a tutorial shortly.
As for the Space Shooter video tutorials, expect those to be released around Christmas time if I get everything set up properly.
Hey everyone!
Seems I forgot to post the new podcast on the main website. So here is the second podcast from PHStudios. The layout and format of the podcast is still being worked on. If you have any requests or suggestions on interesting things I can do for the podcast, please let me know. This podcast episode is a bit length due to the number of detailed questions I received. I kept all the questions at the end so you can stop when you get to those if you want. The audio version will NOT include the questions, since I show stuff in visual studio.
Topics covered: Prizes on the website, Advanced Techniques series, Complaints, and Questions.
Please check this out for the prize discussion. This should really boost activity.
If you have any questions about the topics discussed, or anything in general, please post them here. Now get to work winning prizes :)
You have 2 days to get your entries in for this extended SOTW. Please enter if you have not, we could use more entries. Next week I will be doing another podcast episode. I will be answering a lot of questions. If you have any you want me to answer through the podcast, please let me know through a PM on the forums (click my name anywhere on the forums and select "Send me a message" on the left side). I will also be announcing a new way to reward members that participate in competitions, so enter in this SOTW as it will count!
Here is a beta of the first networking sample. This is ONLY meant to discuss sessions and the basic setup of a networking game. Next tutorial we will add a game element and start building up.
Check it out - http://www.phstudios.com/files/SessionSample.zip
This sample includes a copy of the project for the Xbox 360. If you do not have one, or you do not have a subscription, delete the Xbox 360 project, or go up to the top where it says Debug - Mixed Platforms. Change "Mixed Platforms" to x86. I will get to the video when I am done being sick :(
Hey everyone!
Something that a few people have mentioned a few times before is to do general updates every week or every two weeks, and to make it more interesting than a post/wall-of-text. So I am officially announcing the PHStudios Podcast! You can view the XML here. The main link takes you to a streaming page, and copy the XML link into iTunes (Advanced - Subscribe to podcast I believe) to automatically receive updates. I start off the podcast by just giving you a list of what is being worked on and what will be coming up in the future. In this episode, I mention my Zune HD and when to expect some Zune dedicated tutorials (samples can start next month or so), the status of the XNA Advanced Techniques series for the public, what is coming up for graphic users, and a new XNA series for networking. Also, I mention that the 1080p tutorials are dead from this point on. Several reasons for me doing so include the amount of time to make things look well on 720p and YouTube. Also, I do not think many people here have the setup to view 1080p tutorials at 100%.
These episodes will be dedicated to giving you updates on what is going on, and what is coming up. Not only that, I can throw in some tips and answer some questions if you send any in. So please send me any questions you want me to answer on the next podcast episode. I will try to keep these around 10-20 minutes.
I think I have done this once in the past, but it was around a 40 minute major summer update so it was not very good. Depending on how you guys like this idea, I will keep on doing it. I am still working on it so the formatting might change a bit. Let me know if you want more, and more importantly, if you want them every week!
